The 3 confusing problems with WHV work
*There are definitely more than 3 challenges when looking for WHV work in Australia.
Some areas might use multiple postcodes.
Some places like to use two different postcodes for the same area.They often do this to make it easier for businesses to manage their operations. One delivery postcode used for shipments, and another for administrative purposes.

Hayman Island in the Whitsunday Islands uses two different postcodes: 4802 for regional purposes and 4801 for deliveries. If you're looking for work on Hayman island you might search the postcode 4801 but find that it isn't listed as a valid postcode.

The postcode 3707 covers areas in both New South Wales and Victoria. Bushfire recovery work (BRW) is allowed in the postcode but is only available in the Victoria part of the postcode. Which can lead to confusion when trying to find work. If you are looking for work in the Victoria part of the postcode, you will need to ensure you are in the correct area. Always double check that the address your employer is providing is in the correct state for the work type you are doing.

Bushfire Declared Areas
Bushfire recovery work carried out after 31 July 2019 in the following areas is considered specified work for the purpose of a second or third Working Holiday (subclass 417) visa
Northern Australia
Tourism and hospitality work carried out from 22 June 2021 in the following areas of Northern Australia is considered eligible specified work for the purpose of a second or third Working Holiday (subclass 417) visa application lodged from 5 March 2022.
Remote and Very Remote Australia
Tourism and hospitality work carried out from 22 June 2021 in the following areas of Remote and Very Remote Australia is considered eligible specified work for the purpose of a second or third Working Holiday (subclass 417) visa application lodged from 5 March 2022.
Regional Australia
Specified work carried out in the following areas of regional Australia is considered eligible specified work for the purpose of a second or third Working Holiday (subclass 417) visa. Regional Australia usually includes Farm work, Mining, Tree Farming and Felling, Contruction and others.
Natural Disaster Declared Areas
Bushfire recovery work carried out after 31 July 2019 in the following areas is considered specified work for the purpose of a second or third Working Holiday (subclass 417) visa
Regional Worktypes
Tourism and Hospitality
Tourism and hospitality specified work can be carried out in the areas such as hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts, and backpacker hostels. Food and Beverage services and Tourism operators also count.
Plant and animal cultivation
Plant and animal cultivation can be defined as the harvesting and/or packing of fruit and vegetable crops, as well as the immediate processing of animal products including shearing, butchery, packing, and tanning.
Tree farming and felling
Tree farming and felling can be defined as planting or tending trees in a plantation or forest that are intended to be felled.
Fishing and pearling
Fishing and pearling includes operations relating directly to taking or catching fish and other aquatic species. It also inlcudes operations relating directly to taking or culturing pearls or pearl shell.
Mining
Mining for the purposes of specified work can be defined as coal mining, oil and gas extraction, metal ore mining, and mining for other construction materials.
Construction
Construction is defined as residential and non-residential building construction, heavy and civil engineering construction, land development and site preparation services and building structure, installation, and completion services.
Bushfire recovery work
WHMs can count bushfire recovery work in declared bushfire-affected areas as specified work, if the work is carried out after 31 July 2019.
Natural disaster recovery work
This applies to recovery work carried out in areas that have been declared affected by flood, cyclone or other severe weather events.
Other Notes
Critical COVID-19 work
Work must be critical to Australia’s response to COVID-19.
As a guide, this includes: Medical treatment, nursing, contact tracing, testing, and research, Support services including cleaning of medical, health care, and quarantine facilities and equipment involved in the response to COVID-19 Work must have been carried out after 31 January 2020, anywhere in Australia.
